Shark Dive

"The Truth About Sharks"

When you explore your exciting underwater Universe, you will encounter sharks. When you understand them better you will enjoy these brief encounters. In shark feeding demonstration areas, sharks have become conditioned not to fear the sound of bubbles from your air supply. They will look you over. Whether you are participating in a demonstration, or just finning about with your buddy, the following information will enhance your safe, unique and fascinating experience.

"Who Else Wants To Learn More About Sharks...?"

Your Shark Dive is an incredible experience that you will never forget! The following information will help you understand how the dive is operated.

The area it is prolific with an abundance of marine life. Anywhere from 6–20 Bahamian Reef Sharks may be seen on your dive. Other marine creatures you may encounter are Nurse Sharks, green Moray Eels, Spotted Eagle Rays and if, lucky, a Hammerhead. You never know what you will see. You are guaranteed you will see these reef sharks in a closeup feeding situation. Please do a 5-minute safety stop before surfacing due to the depth and time of your dive profile. These are the safety rules you must abide by to keep your electrifying dive safe as possible—for yourself, your buddy and the rest of your group:

  • 1) Please kneel in one place on the bottom. You must not move around during this dive. As you get close to the bottom, do not kick—so as to not stir up the sand.
  • 2) Please keep your arms close to your body. Do not extend them at any time during the dive. Do not touch the sharks!
  • 3) You must wear a wetsuit. This is for your protection and comfort. You may get cold during this long dive—you will not be moving around.
  • 4) You must remain at least 10 feet from the sharks' food source at all times. This is the only thing that separates you from being mistaken as food by the Sharks.
  • 5) Stay upcurrent from the sharks' food source—the smell of fish on divers can be very attracting for the sharks.
  • 6) To keep yourself steady on the bottom please put an extra 3 lbs. of weight on your weight belt. Do not overweight yourself more than this!
  • 7) Do not splash around on the surface waiting for your buddy. When you enter the water please descend immediately 15–25 feet and wait for your buddy on the down-line.
  • 8) If there is a current, swim continuously into the current. Do not at any time get down-current from the dive boat.
  • 9) At the end of the dive, stay underwater on the down-line until it is your turn on the ladder. Only one person on the ladder at a time! Do not flounder around on the surface.

Sharks are attracted to the sound of a recycling photographic strobe. Don't be surprised if they come close to your strobe. You can use your strobe to fend them off, if needed. Again, keep your hands in close to your body. During your Shark Dive please keep track of your air pressure gauge—it is your responsibility to watch your air supply. The entire dive is done almost directly under the boat. It is imperative you let us know when you are down to 1,000psi of air remaining so you may make a safe, slow ascent.

Coral reef preservation is an utmost priority! During the Shark Dive, please do not sit, kneel, stand-on, or do any damage to the reef surrounding the dive site. When you near the large sand patch where the dive is held, please only touch down in the sand patch. Swim at least 10 feet off the bottom until you get above the sand. Then touch down gently without stirring up the sand. This practice avoids your reducing visibility and silting up the coral.

You are about to experience the dive of a lifetime. Relax, enjoy, experience the thrill of seeing these magnificent creatures up close. Underwater Videos are available of your Shark Dive, professionally edited and set to music. If you wish to purchase a video, please let us know in advance and we will focus on getting the best shots of you with the Sharks.
